Being the only wholly-postgraduate university in the UK, Cranfield is a unique learning environment with world-class programmes, unrivalled facilities and close links with business, industry and governments. Cranfield is well positioned to develop and deliver a knowledge base in cross-cutting discipline research areas, where a critical mass of capability and expertise is still emerging across the academic community, and has already made great strides in supporting appropriate skills development, attracting research funding, and publishing in academic and practitioner fora.
The Energy and Power Theme, as part of School of Water, Energy and Environment at Cranfield University, aims at advancing the potential solutions in energy and power in order to provide a sustainable, secure and affordable energy supply for the future. The postgraduate community of Energy and Power Theme includes around 200 MSc students from around the globe and 150 full-time doctoral students. Advanced techniques for process modelling, monitoring and control are developed incorporating various process information in order to improve the efficiency and sustainability of process operations. As an example, current researches include the metering, monitoring and control of multiphase flows for the sake of reliability and optimisation of offshore oil and gas operations using the three-phase rig, the largest and fully automated multiphase flow test facility in the Higher Education sector in UK.
