Juan received his bachelor in mechanical engineering in 2010 from the Technological University of Pereira in Colombia. In 2012 he completed a master by research – Mphil in mining looking at the reliability of mining equipment in a joint project between the University of Queensland and CRCMining in Australia. His professional interest is around maintenance and reliability engineering. He is currently a part-time PhD candidate at the Imperial College London.
Juan’s gained professional practical experience as maintenance and reliability engineer. As junior engineer he did a 7 month internship at a brewery company doing a feasibility project to reuse an internal power generating plant. This project was assessed as his bachelor’s research thesis. After completion of his master’s degree he worked for Peabody Energy Australia doing a two year graduate training program as mechanical engineer in multiple coal mining operations both underground and open pit. Soon after in 2015 he was assigned as Low Cost Country Sourcing advisor to provide technical support on equipment spare parts.
Juan is currently employed by ABB Norway as Early Stage Researcher in the PRONTO program to work on maintenance optimization. He is also a part-time PhD candidate at the Imperial College London.
